This course includes reading and tasks from the following Stage 9 Student Textbook (ISBN 978-0-00-836408-3) and the Stage 9 Workbook (ISBN 978-0-00-836419-9). These are required resources for this course.

 

The English Handbook and Study Guide (EAN: 9780620325837) is recommended as a useful addition for revision of grammar.

Additional notes, worksheets and videos are also included in this course.

AIMS

The aims of the Lower Secondary 9 curriculum are to enable students to develop skills and understanding in three areas: reading and writing. They will learn how to communicate effectively and respond to a range of information, media and texts to:

  • become confident communicators, able to apply their reading and writing skills effectively in everyday situations and in studying a range of subjects
  • see themselves as readers, engaging with a range of texts for information and for pleasure, including texts from different times and cultures 
  • see themselves as writers, using the written word clearly and creatively for a range of different audiences and purposes 
  • develop a broad vocabulary and an understanding of how to apply grammar and linguistic conventions appropriately 
  • develop skills to evaluate written texts, making decisions about how convincingly they represent different values and opinions.
