Before you start this 9093 English Language course, you need to know how Cambridge will assess you. There are some important things you need to keep in mind while working.

AIMS OF THE COURSE

The aims are to enable students to: 

• enjoy the experience of studying English language

• develop a critical and informed response to texts in a range of forms, styles and contexts, produced for a variety of audiences

• communicate effectively, creatively, accurately and appropriately in their writing

• develop the interdependent skills of reading and analysis

• develop an appreciation of concepts and techniques in the study of English language

• build a firm foundation for further study of language and linguistics.

ASSESSMENT OBJECTIVES (AO)

These are the skills that you need in AS English:

AO1: Read and demonstrate understanding of a wide variety of texts.

AO2: Write effectively, creatively, accurately and appropriately, for a range of audiences and purposes.

AO3: Analyse the ways in which writers’ and speakers’ choices of form, structure and language produce meaning and style.

 

IMPORTANT!

It is IMPERATIVE that you read pages iv to x as they explain how the textbook is structured, how the colour coding works and gives an overview of the assessments. The command words on page vii are also very important as they help you to understand the questions.
